QOO 16 China Launch Confirmed for September iQOO Pad Ultra to Tag Along
How I wrote this (please read): I have not used an iQOO 16 yet. Everything below comes from vivo’s own China product page, the iQOO India community post about the launch, and published price reports. When a number is vivo’s lab claim, I say so. When something is my opinion, I say that too. No fake “after 30 days of use” stories here.
iQOO claims its upcoming handset will enable console-like ray tracing effects and improved visual quality in demanding games.
Highlights:
- will feature a proprietary new in-house gaming chip
- The iQOO Pad Ultra will have an 8.8-inch OLED screen
- Launch Date: Released in China on September 29, 2026.
- Display: 6.85-inch 2K 165Hz Samsung M16 AMOLED screen.
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 with an in-house Q4 gaming chip.
- Battery: 8,400mAh Blue Ocean battery supporting 100W wired and 40W wireless charging.
- Camera: Triple 50MP rear camera system and a 32MP front selfie camera

The short Story version
The iQOO 16 is a gaming-first flagship that launched in China on 29 September 2026. It pairs a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 (2nm) with a 6.85-inch 2K 165Hz Samsung panel, an 8400mAh battery and a 50MP + 50MP + 50MP camera system. It is genuinely impressive on paper. The catch for us in India: there is no official India launch date or price, and the early price chatter is uncomfortable.

Six claims, decoded the way I read them
1. “5,574,521 on AnTuTu”
vivo cites this score on its page, tested on the top 16GB + 1TB model in its own lab. Treat it as a ceiling, not what you will see on a 12GB + 256GB unit after a few weeks of updates. The real story is the 2nm chip and the claimed 37% CPU efficiency gain over the Gen 5, which matters more for heat and battery than for raw bragging rights.
2. “2K 165Hz screen”
This is iQOO’s first 2K 165Hz panel, co-developed with Samsung Display. vivo says 2K LEAD 2.0 uses 31% less power than a 1.5K panel, and that every screen is individually colour-calibrated at the factory. The fine print I noticed: 165Hz in everyday apps is switched on through developer mode (the “extreme 165Hz” setting), with 100+ apps and 50+ games listed. So 165Hz is not simply the default experience.
3. “8.5K VC cooling”
The numbers are specific: a 1190mm² thermal gel layer (+41% over iQOO 15), an 8500mm² vapor chamber (+6%) and 29,453mm² of graphite (+20%). The bigger gains are in the gel and graphite, not the headline VC. Good engineering, but only real-world sustained-load tests will show whether it keeps frame rates steady after 30 minutes of gaming in an Indian summer.
4. “8400mAh battery”
The page’s own footnote lists 8400mAh as the typical capacity and 8170mAh as the rated capacity. That is normal industry practice, but worth knowing. vivo claims 32 hours of video and 8.6 hours of 165fps gaming in its lab. I would plan on a heavy day lasting comfortably, but I will not quote vivo’s gaming hours as my own result.
5. “79% more light for night photos”
That figure compares the 1/1.3-inch main sensor against the iQOO 15 Ultra, not the regular iQOO 15. The hardware list is strong: a Sony periscope with 3x optical zoom, plus a 1/1.3-inch main with CIPA 5.5 stabilisation. Camera quality depends on tuning, and I will not call it until I see unedited samples.
6. “6 years of smoothness”
vivo’s own footnote says this does not mean “never lags”. It also says several features, including Q-flex touch, the PC game emulator and the game big-screen mode, arrive via OTA updates. My rule: never buy a phone for features promised later.

iQOO 16 price in India: what we actually know
In China, the iQOO 16 starts at CNY 5,999 for 12GB + 256GB, rising to CNY 8,499 for 16GB + 1TB. The base price converts to roughly ₹86,000. For India, the only number around is a tipster estimate of about ₹1 lakh, which I treat as a rumour, not a price.
For context, the iQOO 15 launched in India at ₹72,999 (12GB/256GB) and ₹79,999 (16GB/512GB). A ₹1 lakh iQOO 16 would be a jump of roughly 37%. As of 5 October 2026, iQOO has not announced an India launch.
My opinion: if it lands near ₹1 lakh, iQOO is no longer the “flagship power at a lower price” brand. It would be competing head-on with Apple, Samsung and Google flagships, where resale value and long-term software support carry more weight.
China-only features: do not assume they come to India
Much of vivo’s page is written for the Chinese market. The Honor of Kings 165fps partnership, the Guangzhou metro gaming network and the paid AI pet theme tiers (¥4.99 and ¥12.99) are China-specific. The game list that vivo shows with 2K + 165fps includes Call of Duty: Mobile, but I did not see BGMI mentioned, so check game support before you pay. The iQOO 15 shipped to India with OriginOS 6, so I expect OriginOS here too, but that is an expectation, not a confirmed fact.
Two practical notes from the fine print: the phone has no 3.5mm jack and does not support analog USB-C earphones, only Bluetooth or digital USB-C ones. And the retail box has a charger, cable and case but no earphones.
Who should wait, and who should skip
Wait for the India launch if you play competitive mobile games, want a 2K screen with long battery life, and are happy to pay flagship money for iQOO’s tuning.
Skip or look elsewhere if camera consistency, resale value or a light phone matter most. At up to 229.8g, this is a heavy phone. And if your budget is under ₹75,000, the iQOO 15 is a safer bet while its price settles.
