iPhone Duo in India: Everything Apple Has Officially Confirmed ?

I have been waiting to write this one. For years the foldable category has belonged to Samsung and a handful of Android brands, and the question was never if Apple would join, but how. With the iPhone Duo, we finally have Apple’s answer, and I have gone through everything Apple India has published about it so you do not have to.
A note on how I wrote this: I have not used the iPhone Duo. Everything below comes from Apple’s official India page, and any battery or performance figure is Apple’s own claim from its own testing. Once I get real-world time with the device, I will add my hands-on findings here.

The Foldable Design
Open the iPhone Duo and you get the largest display Apple has ever put on an iPhone, a 19.26 cm (7.6-inch) Super Retina XDR panel. Apple says that is 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and that it is also the thinnest iPhone to date when unfolded. Close it and you get a 13.26 cm (5.4-inch) outer display, which Apple says offers over 90% of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro.
One smart detail: the aspect ratio is the same on the inner and outer screens. In practice, that should mean apps look consistent whether the phone is open or shut, with less awkward resizing when you switch.
Built to Last
Durability is the first worry with any foldable, and Apple addresses it directly:
- Grade 5 titanium frame and hinge cover
- Ceramic Shield on the front and back
- Scratch-resistant coating on the inner display
- IP68 water and dust resistance (tested to 6 metres for up to 30 minutes in lab conditions, and Apple notes this is not permanent)
On the crease question, Apple says the inner display uses optically clear adhesives that let layers glide while folding, to minimise stress and visible creasing. I would want to see that in person before drawing conclusions.
The Display
The inner screen is built from 10 ultra-thin layers and carries a nano-texture finish to cut glare. Both displays reach up to 3,000 nits peak brightness and support ProMotion up to 120Hz. The front camera for FaceTime sits under the inner display and stays hidden until needed, so there is no visible cutout interrupting the picture.
New Ways to Use an iPhone
The hardware is only half the story. iOS 27 has been reworked for the Duo’s different poses, and these are the features that stood out to me:
- Split View: two apps side by side, like dragging a photo from Photos straight into Mail
- Hands-free FaceTime: the phone can stand on its own for calls
- Flexible viewing: prop it at an angle to watch shows on the outer display, or follow a workout on a table
- StandBy: use it as a bedside clock or photo frame while standing
- Portrait mode perks: a wider keyboard, and a pinned video at the top while you use another app
Cameras
The Duo has a 48MP Dual Fusion rear system: a 48MP Fusion Main and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide. Zoom goes to 2x optical-quality (0.5x, 1x and 2x). Video goes up to 4K at 120 fps. The front camera is a 12MP Center Stage unit, plus the under-display camera for 1080p FaceTime.
The foldable form factor enables some genuinely new camera tricks that Apple says are exclusive to this phone:
- Smart Take: detects when everyone is ready and takes the shot, so no racing a timer
- Duo Preview: the outer display shows your subject a live preview so they can fix their pose
- Kid Cue: playful animations on the outer display to get children looking at the lens
- Duo FaceTime: people next to you can join the call on the outer display
Software features include Photographic Styles 3 (adjust texture and grain as well as tone), Cinematic mode, 4K time-lapse with Dolby Vision HDR, smart focus tracking, and AI editing tools such as Spatial Reframing, Extend and an improved Clean Up. Apple notes usage limits may apply to some of the AI tools.

Performance and Battery
Inside is the A20 Pro chip with a dual 16-core Neural Engine, paired with a vapour chamber for cooling. Apple claims up to 20% faster 6-core CPU performance and up to 50% more memory bandwidth than the A19 Pro. It is the same chip as the iPhone 18 Pro, so raw performance should be in the same league.
Battery is where Apple did some clever packaging. The Duo uses a dual-battery system, and going eSIM-only frees up internal space for more cell capacity. Apple’s claimed video playback numbers:

These figures come from Apple’s own July 2026 tests on pre-production units. Fast charging needs a 60W-capable USB-C cable and a compatible USB PD adapter. MagSafe wireless charging is supported. Real-world results will vary.
Siri AI and Apple Intelligence
The Duo ships with Siri AI, Apple’s more conversational assistant. It can answer open-ended questions, pull up personal context such as an old photo or a buried email, take actions inside apps like Messages, Music and Reminders, and draft or critique writing in your own style. There is a dedicated Siri app for conversation history, and a Siri mode in Camera.
Important for Indian users: Siri AI is rolling out in English first, and Apple describes it as a beta in iOS 27. Some server-based features have daily usage limits, and Apple says expanded access may become a paid option in the future. If you rely on Hindi or Gujarati for assistants, check language support before you count this as a reason to buy.

The trade-off is clear. The Duo wins on screen size, multitasking and the new poses. The 18 Pro wins on camera versatility, especially if you care about telephoto zoom and low-light flexibility from the variable aperture. Same chip, different priorities.
Things to Know Before You Pre-Order
- eSIM only. There is no physical SIM tray, so confirm your carrier supports eSIM and that you know how to transfer your number.
- Touch ID, not Face ID. It works whether the phone is open or closed.
- No telephoto lens. Zoom tops out at 2x.
- Apple Pencil (USB-C) support is listed as coming later this year.

I would also wait for independent reviews on crease visibility, hinge feel and real battery life before spending flagship money.

Final Thoughts
The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first real attempt at a foldable, and on paper it looks thoughtful: a consistent screen shape, a durable titanium build, a flagship chip, and software designed around new ways to hold and prop the phone. The compromises are the camera setup and the move to eSIM and Touch ID. I will update this article with hands-on impressions once I have spent time with it.
